Dear Diva: Taking Your Dog to Doggy Boot Camp

bootcamp

You recently found that you and your dog are a bit less fit and healthy than you would like. Maybe its time to join a doggy boot camp? True, not all boot camps work in the same manner. Some only work on your dog's obedience, but there are others that train both you and your dog to become fit.

The Kind of Training Programs that Exist and Where They are Situated:
All over the world there are popping up new parks where you and your dog can go to perform your exercise. They usually also allow your dog to get obedience training. These kinds of parks push the idea that your dog is your training partner. The programs these parks offer is fantastic since it allows to some extent for you to choose what pace you would like to train at. Your dog needs to be four months of age or older to go to most of these doggy boot camps and already understand simple commands. The way the program is carried out might be different in some
areas but the camps generally offer a one-hour training session prior to the actual commencement of the classes. You need to bring with you some basic dog equipment such as his leash and collar, water, and mat. You should bring along some free weights and a towel.

What to do if You Live Too Far Away From any Doggy Boot Camp:
Of course, you may live too far away from one of these doggy boot camps to attend them.
If this is the case then why not do your own doggy boot camp at home? Such things as running, walking, jogging, and cycling could all be done with your dog. You could also go swimming with your pet depending on what breed it is.

Keeping in Mind the Breed of Dog that Will Accompany You in Your Training:
Still on breeds, you must realize that there are many dogs who won't accompany you very well as a workout partner. For instance, short snouted breeds of dog have trouble breathing while doing strenuous activity. If you have a dog that seems to be struggling to keep up with your routine because of its breed, you should keep its exercise to a minimum. Whatever it is that you're doing, most dogs will happily accompany you. You might wish to go hiking or swimming or just going around your local areas for a walk will give your dog great joy. If you're going to begin a sudden program of strenuous exercise with your dog though, remember to check with your vet to see that your dog will cope alright with the exercise.
